Thrust ball bearings are designed to support axial loads in one direction while allowing rotational motion between machine components. They consist of two washers (raceways) with a ball and cage assembly between them.
These bearings are commonly used in automotive transmissions, machine tool spindles, and applications requiring high axial load capacity at moderate speeds. They are not designed to carry radial loads and must be used in conjunction with radial bearings in applications where combined loads exist.
