The 3909 is a thrust ball bearing designed to support axial loads in one direction. Thrust ball bearings consist of two washers (shaft and housing washers) with a ball and cage assembly between them, allowing for efficient transmission of thrust loads between rotating and stationary components.
These bearings are commonly used in automotive transmissions, machine tool spindles, and other applications where space is limited and primarily axial loads must be accommodated. They are not designed to carry radial loads and must be used in conjunction with radial bearings in applications with combined loading.
