Thrust ball bearings are designed to support axial loads in a single direction while allowing rotational movement between machine components. They consist of two hardened steel washers (raceways) with a ball and cage assembly between them.
These bearings are commonly used in low-speed applications requiring axial load support, such as automotive transmissions, marine propeller shafts, machine tool spindles, and rotating platforms. They must be used with adequate axial preload and are not suitable for combined radial and thrust loads.
