Bearing designation decoder
Type any bearing designation and get every character explained — bore, outside diameter, width, bore type, seals or shields, clearance class — plus the equivalents other manufacturers publish for it. The answer is computed from ISO 15 structure and published interchange tables, not guessed.

How a metric bearing designation is built
Most metric bearings follow ISO 15. The designation splits into a type and series
prefix, a two-digit bore code, and a string of suffixes describing how the bearing
is built. Read 22226 K as: spherical roller bearing (22), diameter
series 2, bore code 26, tapered bore (K).
Bore code
The last two digits before the suffixes give the bore. From 04 upwards, multiply by 5 — bore code 26 is a 130 mm bore, code 08 is 40 mm. Below that the codes are fixed: 00 = 10 mm, 01 = 12 mm, 02 = 15 mm, 03 = 17 mm.
Common suffixes
- 2RS / 2RSR / DDU
- Contact rubber seals on both sides. One seal only: RS.
- ZZ / 2Z
- Metal shields both sides — lower friction than seals, less protection.
- K
- Tapered bore, normally 1:12, mounted on an adapter sleeve. Not interchangeable with a straight bore.
- C2 / (none) / C3 / C4
- Radial internal clearance: tighter than normal, normal, looser, loosest. C3 is the usual choice where the bearing runs hot or sits on an interference fit.
- W33
- Lubrication groove and three holes in the outer ring.
- E / EC
- Reinforced internal design — more or larger rolling elements, higher load rating.
- P6 / P5 / P4 / ABEC-…
- Precision class. Lower number is tighter; ISO P0 (unmarked) is standard.
What this tool will not do
Inch-series tapered roller designations (the Timken-style
HM926747/HM926710 family) are catalogue numbers, not structured codes —
there is nothing in the characters to decode, so the tool reports them as
unrecognised rather than inventing a reading. Cross-references are what the
manufacturers publish for their own sales teams; they mix true equivalents with
OEM part numbers, so always confirm dimensions and fit before ordering.
