Thrust ball bearings are designed to support axial loads in a single direction while allowing rotational motion between machine components. They consist of ball rolling elements arranged in a raceway pattern between two hardened steel washers.
This bearing type is commonly used in automotive transmissions, machine tool spindles, crane hooks, and other applications where space is limited and predominantly axial loads must be accommodated. They are not suitable for radial loads or combined loading conditions.
